About Me

Who I am

I'm Yuki, and I live in Fukuoka, Japan, with my husband and our two children.

Fukuoka is one of Japan's major cities on the southern island of Kyushu. It's known for its delicious food, beautiful nature, and livable atmosphere.

I'm an ordinary Japanese mom living in the suburbs who loves languages and enjoys sharing my everyday life and Japanese culture with learners around the world.

I'm a Language Learner Too

I have always been interested in languages and different cultures. When I was in high school, I homestayed in New Zealand and the UK, and when I was in university, I studied at the University of Tasmania in Australia for 10 months as an exchange student.

Even after those experiences, I never felt confident in English. I was good at studying English for exams, but I was never confident in real communication.

As an adult, I tried many different methods to improve my English. What worked best for me was extensive reading—reading lots of books that were easy for me to understand. That was how I first discovered the power of input.

Later, I learned about Dr. Stephen Krashen's Input Hypothesis through books, and I realized that what I experienced through extensive reading was exactly what he described.

Since then, I have continued learning languages through Comprehensible Input, so I know what it feels like to be a language learner. I'm currently enjoying learning English, Korean, and Mandarin through Comprehensible Input at my own pace.

Why I Started Nihongo no Jikan

My interest in languages also led me to learn about my mother tongue, Japanese, and I got my Japanese teaching certification in 2020. This made me even more interested in Japanese education.

At that time, I noticed that most Japanese resources out there focused on grammar rules, useful expressions, or textbook-based learning. There were very few resources based on Comprehensible Input.

I wanted to create the kind of content I would want to use as a learner—content that helps learners acquire Japanese naturally through meaningful input. That's why I started creating CI videos in 2021.

My approach was inspired by various CI resources and methods, especially Dr. Beniko Mason's StoryListening method, the TPRS method, and the Spanish YouTube channel Dreaming Spanish.

In June 2026, I launched Nihongo no Jikan as a new home for my content.
